Rest… It’s a concept I know little about. I have never been the one to rest like I should. I run and run and run until my body shuts itself down. If I am lucky I get anywhere between 4-6 hours of sleep, but this is what I am used to. It has been this way since I was younger, it’s my lifestyle.
No matter what time my husband and I got to sleep at night we get up at about 4 a.m. to go to the gym to workout. It’s has become a routine that if broken leaves us feeling sluggish and out of sorts. This morning unfortunately my body decided that it needed more rest. After shooting weddings back to back this weekend and lack of sleep my body decided to shut down instead. My husband made me go back to sleep after hearing how horrible I sounded. I slept for another few hours, if it had not been for my whining dog, I probably could have slept more.
Rest is part of the fitness program. It needs to be factored into a routine. It’s when the body has a chance to repair torn muscles and build new ones. Without the chance to heal it can actually hinder your progress. I am working so hard to get into shape and be healthy that I want it all now! I have to realize it will only happen in time and with the proper recouping time.
